Civil Construction Contractor

From Blocked in Search to Found and Tracked

A civil construction contractor had a website carrying a site-wide noindex tag, malware sitting in the files, and no analytics recording anything. Their previous host had left the site unpatched, and nothing in the reporting would have shown it, because there was no reporting.

Maintenance and updates being implemented

Results

A site that can be found, measured and trusted

The malware is gone, the site runs on maintained hosting with current core and plugin versions, every page is eligible to appear in search, and analytics now record what visitors do.

Fully Indexed

A site-wide noindex removed, making every page eligible to rank

Malware Cleared

Infected files removed, site hardened and moved to a maintained environment

Analytics Live

Tracking and conversion measurement installed where none existed

Fully Patched

Core, theme and plugin versions brought current and kept on an update schedule

Process

Three problems, none of them visible from the front end

Nothing was visibly wrong. Malware in the files, a noindex directive in the header and a missing analytics tag all leave the page a visitor sees exactly as it was, which is how they sit there for years. Someone has to go looking, and on a hosting arrangement with no active maintenance, nobody does.

We cleared the infected files, hardened the site and moved it to hosting where core, theme and plugin updates happen on a schedule. Removing the site-wide noindex made every page eligible to rank for the first time. Installing analytics and conversion tracking meant the following months would produce a baseline, which the previous years never had.
